Daal makhani
This is a very very popular and tasty panjabi dish,another(one is chhole) option when you don't have veggies.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup whole urad(black gram)(you can use split black gram too),2-3 tablespoon oil,some cumin seed,2 tomatoes,1 onion,1 table spoon ginger-garlic paste,1 tablespoon garam masala,1/2 table spoon red chili powder,1/4 teaspoon turmeric,2 tablespoon butter,salt to taste,cilantro.
Time:20-30mins.
Method:
1.Soak whole urad in water for 6-7 hrs.,take it out and pressure cook urad by adding 2 cups of water for 5-6 whistle or until it becomes tender.
2.Finely chop tomatoes and onion and cilantro(coriander).
3.Keep one pan on medium to high heat,add oil when it will become hot add cumin seed.To this oil add onion fry it to golden brown,now add ginger garlic paste saute it,add tomatoes and fry well so that you won't see chunks of tomatoes and onion and raw smell of tomatoes won't remain.
4.Add red chili powder,stir once and add 1 spoon butter,another quick stir, now add precooked daal again stir thoroughly,add coriander powder,amchur powder(dry mango powder) and garam masala, add remaining butter,mix nicely and keep on medium heat for 4-5 mins.
5.Finally, garnish with cilantro.Serve with naan or chapati.
